*theres no limit to how many pieces of art you can submit in one week but please be reasonable
*submiting blogs is also allowed
*Non-members are allowed to submit favourites

The Heart Instrument It's said to be beautiful
because it rests above the heart,
my violin bows out
my emotions, the soul of
an aspiring musician,

Violinist I make the bow follow the string
To the end, back and forth
And my pain, my obsession
Becomes a musical nightmare

My hands shake and my fingers
Seek their way all over strings
Pressing, pulling, sliding
Creating a tune of anxiety

So sad, so lightheaded
So incredible this piece
Of myself that I've formed

Violin The weathered wood felt velvety soft against the girl's pale cheek as she held the delicate instrument to her face to inhale its musky scent. She ran her thin fingers over the grooves and dents, as if following a map to her destiny. In many ways she felt as if she were.
With the gentleness of a mother holding her newborn, she nestled the violin under her chin. Each metal string was plucked once with careful precision, checking for the clear, clean tone, which called out to her very soul. It was perfect.
The girl inhaled, pausing in that crucial moment before the fragViolin by ~tortugamgmt

The Violin Closing her eyes
Drawing the bow across the string
Tears swell
As the notes begin to ring

A deep forlorn note
Sorrowful and low
Echoes from the violin
Passionate and slow

She tells her sad story
On the wistful winds
As a grim lament
For her lover lost begins

The melody is bitter sweet
Full of passion and pain
Reaching its crescendo
In the fiery refrain

This is how she has learned
to make it through the night
Telling her story to the stars

Many thanks to ~kkplum for letting me post this journal.

Hi, I'm *Charlotte-P-Utton, I'm 16, and like many of you, I play the violin.

I've created a chat where musicians can get together and chat about the instrument(s) they play and about stuff in general. It is also there for people who have questions about playing, buying or learning instruments, or have something to discuss about instruments, to find people who might be able to help them.

There are six privclasses:
-Percussionists – for drummers, pianists, xylophonists, etc.
-BrassPlayers – for trumpeters, trombonists, buglers, etc.
-WoodwindPlayers – for flautists, saxophonists, organists, etc.
-StringPlayers – for violinists, cellists, guitarists, etc.
-ManyTalented – for people who play several instruments in different categories, e.g. drums&guitar
-TheAudience – for people who don't play an instrument but would like to come and chat (you will automatically be put in this privclass when you join the chat if you are not already in a different one)

Just tell me which privclass you belong to, or if you're not sure, which instrument(s) you play, and I'll put you in the right one.

Does anybody have any tips wrist-wise for Sautillé bowing? It's sounding right, but my wrist doesn't look and feel fluid enough for it...

well. Something that most people don't realize is that sautille requires a lot of flexibility and fluid movement from the fingers. You should be familiar with the colle stroke before you start sautille. Assuming that you do know colle, a good exercise is to lift your ring finger and pinkie off of the bow (keeping a light grip) and then try playing one note with sautille. once you feel that the stroke is light an springy put your ring finger back on the bow and repeat the steps with out your pinkie. and then try it with your pinkie on the bow etc.
